This website made me think about how musical theatre can either add to the seriousness or lightheartedness. In High School Musical, the song we're all in this together made the play more fun. In Mulan, the song reflection makes the play much more serious for a minute and takes time to open thoughts about society's demand mixed with personal wishes. This site talked about the beginnings of musical theater, which surprised me. I thought that comedies were relatively modern, but they've been around for a while. I learned a lot from this source.
